The community of Suco Watabou offered a 50-hectare plot of land
to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) for the construction of an Industrial Park

The IX Constitutional Government, through the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI), organized a meeting with the community of Suco Watabou at the Craft and Tais Industry Incubator Center hall, in the Maubara Administrative Post, Liquiçá Municipality, on 30/09/2024.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the government’s plan to establish an industrial park in Suco Watabou, with an area of fifty (50) hectares.
His Excellency, the Vice Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Augusto Junior Trindade, stated that this meeting is part of the government’s efforts, through the MCI, to discuss with the community and hear their opinions about the establishment of the industrial park program, which will be located in Suco Watabou, Maubara Post, Liquiçá Municipality.
According to the Vice Minister, in order to boost the country’s economy, the industrial sector plays a key role. Therefore, the government seeks to collaborate with all sectors, including the private sector and cooperatives, to stimulate the economic development of Timor-Leste. To achieve this goal, the government, through the MCI, has prepared the necessary conditions (through the industrial parks program) to attract investors interested in investing in the country.
Mr. Manuel Almeida Martins, the representative of the land heritage, stated that the community is ready to collaborate with the government in establishing the industrial park. However, the community requests that the government create favorable conditions for the residents who will be affected by this plan.
The meeting was attended by the Vice Minister of MCI, the Director-General of Industry, the National Director of Industrial Development, the representative of the President of the Liquiçá Municipality Authority, the Administrator of the Maubara Administrative Post, the Chief of Suco Watabou, the Village Chief, and the representative of the land heritage.
